Volunteer for Frisbee at Kampong Speu

Running and jumping is hard. I need long arms, long legs, long body to reach the disk. However, frisbee makes me want to grow–not taller, but stronger as a human being.

There are not many women who would play sport since some Cambodians still believe that women who are muscular are all ugly. And the man should be the one who participates in those activities. But, I think that anyone can be anything. Sport is not just for tall or short, fat or skinny, black or white–it is the action of making you healthy and to release some stress; even more is to meet new people and to create new friends.

I had fallen in love with one more sport besides basketball, and that is Frisbee. There are not many Cambodians who know about this beautiful sport. I am just one of the trainers for BeeForce for about 5 months. However, I had learn to work as a team, be integrity, and be respectful to the other team members.

My teammates and I wanted to bring this sport to young Cambodians. So we had decided to volunteer and spend our weekend to teach CAMKIDS’ students of how to play frisbee. The students were very excited and nervous at the same time. It was a big baking day where we were running back and force on the field to catch the frisbee. I was very grateful to see how much they love this sport and wanted us to come back again.

I got some beautiful drawing from the student’s their for a thank you.

Put Myself Inside Her High Heels

A few months ago, we were studied about the Gender equality and equity. Our literacy assignment was to write our experiences or research on the gender in Cambodia. And this is my work.

Put Myself Inside Her High Heels

In Cambodia, there is only one word for people who identify as bisexual, gay and transgender – gay. There are no real names to identify the spectrum of LGBTQ. Due to this lack of language, transgenders are often negatively targeted and only recognized as “gay.”

The transgender community has faced discrimination and oppression as well as physical and verbal abuse. According to the survey from Cambodian Center for Human Rights out of four different provinces,  92% of the interviewee experienced verbal abuse, 43% experienced physical violence, 31% sexual assault, and 25% were raped.

Since I was born in a local community that has a large population of transgenders; I usually see them in the wedding establishment or in the market. I remembered one day when my mom took me to Takeo Market. I saw a 1.75m beautiful woman who walked confidently with her high heels, which is about 12 cm passing by the road. “See that gay person, it looks like a pillar,” said the seller, “I don’t know how much did that gay spend to change itself. How useless, there is no future for that person.” I heard those conversations from one of the sellers that sells me vegetables. And It keeps me wondering how the woman managed to hold her smile knowing the criticism from others in the market.

It is very agonizing that people don’t accept them. However, there are transgenders who are trying to break the gender stereotype. Popi or also known as Leang Sothea won the Crowned Cambodia’s first transvestite beauty queen in 2001 has become the first known transgender. Popi first realized that she loved man at the age of 8 and at the age of 16, she started to wear “women clothes”. She claimed in the Phnom Penh Post that before she became famous, “ [she] was in a real dilemma; men didn’t like [her], and women didn’t like [her].” But there is nothing wrong with her because “It is [her] inclination by nature” that she is born with a woman’s heart. In 2006, she did a sex-change operation and became a popular transgender MC on the television. Moreover she “enjoys reading fashion catalogues, “hair decor” and excursions to the seaside, she is not just another pretty face.”

Popi has the stamina to archives her goals, but there are others that have not had this chance. They need support and appreciation from their family, friends, and society to be able to step up and be proud of who they are. However, this notion is not yet popular in Cambodia. The process of acceptance maybe slow, but necessary. We must all put ourselves in her high heels and recognize empathy is the key to understand.

The Physics Behind The Flash

One of the projects that asked by our physics teacher was physics behind there superpower that the hero has. The outcomes were the essay and the creatives posters where we shared it in class. However, I was busy on the trip, I decided to write the information in a different form.

The Physics Behind The Flash

The new superhero that been created in October 2014 captures people’s hearts because of his handsome face and the super speed; People knew him as “The Fastest Man alive”. The Flash. But, Is it possible in the real life that The Flash can run without damaging himself? Let’s go into detail.

The Suit

Based on the Newton 3 law’s of motion, when we put a force into an object, the object actually putting the same amount of force back. In real life, the flash will be crushed by the small particles in the air with the same amount of force he puts on to run.

Into another story, if you drive in the Lamborghini Aventador with a maximum speed, you actually don’t get crush because of the car design with an enclosed place that protects you from the small particles outside the car. And that’s why The Flash needs his suit so that he doesn’t break his body.

But How does it work?

If you look at the natural disasters, many houses, trees, and buildings are all torn out. But thanks to the Ancient Rome that found out about the concrete, which is actually a source to block from the disasters. But did The Flash suit made out of the concrete when it looks sticky to The Flash body? No! but there are might be some kind of material with a high density. However, a high-density object can be super heavy, so The Flash must be so strong to carry the suit that actually slowing down his speed.

Did he actually run that fast?

Well, he actually did (in the movie for sure). But the real answer is no. Let’s look at some physics that prove his superpower is not realistic.

Albert Einstein said “Energy is equal to mc^2”

Let starts with the equation E = mc^2, m = extra mass, c = speed of light, and E = energy.

The mass of The Flash in real life is 7.65kg and the speed of light is 299 792 458 m / s. When we plug it into the formula that given, we can see that his energy is 6.87547712e^17. Wow, a lot. But that mass is not actually his real mass that we calculate by taking the weight and divided by the gravitational acceleration of 9.8 m/s^2. The mass that we use to calculate is called an extra mass.

We can calculate easily by adding the Kinetic energy, Potential energy, and Thermal energy together. If we look into the new equation, m = E/c^2, we can see that the greater the energy, the bigger the extra mass is. However, extra mass can also identify by looking at the molecules, for example, the Hydrogen. The molecules itself tries to combine with others, so it has some amount of energy. The combination of the energy from 4 individual Hydrogen is actually bigger than the Helium (after 4 Hydrogens bound together). So we take the energy of four individual minus the energy of Helium, then divided the c^2 and we get the extra mass before the molecular form into Helium. The extra mass is for the equation, m = E/c^2.

But because of the speed of light is very fast including the square, the extra mass of The Flash is very very very small. So he actually can’t run with 200 mph and say hi to his girlfriend that drives in Lamborghini Aventador. However, there is one theory in the movie that The Flash actually produces his own Speed Force. The Speed Force is the extra-dimensional energy that The Flash carries. Don’t ask me to prove because there is actually no proof in Physics (yet?). This theory is actually throw away the fact that the E = mc^2 because the mass of The Flash is only 7.56kg and the energy he produces. With that amount of extra mass in his real mass are not enough for a human to move at a speed of 200 mph. It is kind of fail to reject the fiction superhero even though it is not true.

However, this impossibleness power(maybe the physicist can prove it in the future) can’t stop the author because without it, the movie would have not been this good and I like it this way too.

Frisbee at Malaysia

Frisbee was not one of my favorite sports. Because I am small to catch the disk, to block the offense, and actually to throw when there is a defense with the long arms to block you. There are lots and lots of running, jumping, catching, and throwing the disk. But at last, I was selected to be one of the frisbee players to go to Malaysia.

I was very impressed by the view in Malaysia and the people there. Most people know how to speak more than two languages: English, Chinese, Malaysian, Korean, Japanese and others. Their food was very spicy and salty. I like those tastes but I don’t eat spicy that well so I ate always have sandwiches for my breakfast and lunch.

Besides the food, people are friendly there. I was lost on the second day because my roommates had the key to get in. I used the elevator to go from one floor to another to find them. But I am stuck on one of the floors because I don’t have the card. I asked the people there and they help me out. I was a bit scared by finally them come back to the room.

However, we played three games on the first day and another three games on the second day. We won the first game and lose to the rest. But we had learned a lot from other teams with their techniques. We have always had a spiritual game after the game. The captains were the one who said about positive things and how thankful we were to play and learn from them. They usually surprised of how young we are; we are 14-18 year old and they are about 22+.

It was a great trip and I wish to experience more games in the future.

This is one piece of the story.

Aquarius 1rd

My eyes open wisely as I heard the sound of the eagle wander around my ear.

“Where is this place?” I asked myself as I sit up straight and look around.

The room is like a teepee with 17 long small oak tree’ trunks as a pole, prop up about 20 ft from the ground. At one side of the room is connected to another really small room about 4m2. This whole place is covering by white fabric that makes me feel I am in the funeral ceremony. But because of those artistic drawing of animals, rivers, flowers, trees, stars, moon, and the sun, make the room looks more lively. The rustling ground holding the tables, bed, and chairs that made out of Krongoung trees. Some rare stuff such as white tigers and lions heads are hanging as a decoration and I can see their skin has been used as bed sheets.

Book Launched Event

On August 3rd, 2017, I went the book launch called the Mekong Shadows, Tales from Cambodia with my father and sister. I was the second winner in writing the short story under the theme “Noir”. There are about five or six Cambodian who wrote the story including me. I was the youngest author in the book and it made me nervous and excited.

My short story called “Little Girl and the Hat”. It was about the life of a little five-year-old girl who suffered from the loss of her mother and finance problems. The story express the feeling of younger with an adult mind because of the experiences she has been through.

Khmer Short Story

When I have free time, I also love writing a fictional story in the Khmer Language. Due to my experience, I think that both Khmer and English writing format are similar. But the difference is that there are more flexible using Khmer words that English as Khmer is my first language.

This is one piece of a story I wrote. I am planning to write them in series.

កញ្ញាដំបងយក្ស or Ms. Cactus

The story is about a girl who has a mother as Pnoung and her father as a foreigner. After her mother died, her father came and pick her up to live in the city. Because her behavior and survival skills are difference from other people, it is hard for a 17-year-old girl to live. On the first day of school, she is introduced to a fine young man that people called “A student council president” to look after her. At first, she wonders why the school director lets her be under control of the bad mouth guy. Sooner she realizes that he isn’t that bad and that he also a guys that she is looking for.

CRUSH

How can I face those cold big eyes?
It’s freezing me till I die
Into the arm of my hero
The Heroin that I addicted to

The sweetness sense for goodness sake
Dissolves my heart and Snaps my brain
Stinks all my sense of humor
Bewilders me into the clown

How can I dare forget your kiss?
Those red lips that tremble in front of my cheeks
Those cherry smile under the blossom trees
Confiscates all of my attention

The soft pillow I want to hold
The long, short breathe beneath my chin
The ticklish bites that I want you to give me
The velvety voice that never disappears

How can I give up so soon?
The beautiful wall that I breakthrough
The long wise hair falls on my hands
I braid our love into the moon

Who knows that I get drunk by your chocolate?
The bitterness that I don’t care
You poison me into the depth of despair
Can’t get back home without your mercy

I lose along the games you play
Crush by your crushes to take you out
How can you not accept my love
Love me or not, Babe please say yes!

National Authority For Combating Drugs

Our exploration is about the Drug in Cambodia. To be able to get the information, we went to National Authority For Combating Drugs. There are over 20,000 drug users that the police had caught in 2017. They think that they need to time them by 5 because they didn’t know how much more who are hiding in the dark. The popular drug in Cambodia is Methamphetamine. The drug is effective both mental and physical. We can identify them by their lack of famished, their messiness, and aggressiveness. People usually come back to the place that stops the drug 20 times because they can’t stop using it. They need to pay much amount of money and also get into the jail; if they don’t refuse to get treatment, they don’t need to go to jail.

MUN – 2018

MUN or also known as Model United Nation is one of the curriculums that requires the students to represent as a delegate of different countries. All the delegates are formed into difference committee to create resolutions to solve the world’s problems.

ICANMUN opened the conference in 9th to 10th of February. I was invited to be the delegate of Bangladesh in JG3. The problems that all the delegates in the house need to find the resolutions are the question of the rights of indigenous people and the question of protecting endangered species.

This had been a great experience and I am grateful to be a part of the conference. The skills such as public speaking, debating, and pursuing are very important to me because they are the skills that I need to improve.
